My name is Robert and I love RPGs, hiking, novels, cats, and movies.
At heart I'm still that twelve year old kid who wants to gather up a band of brave companions to go save the realm. I have always been a very imaginative person and loved video game RPGs, but discovered pen and paper RPGs in either 2014 or '15 with the 5e Starter Set. I played 5e somewhat consistently until 2022 when I ran my own campaign from levels 1 to 10. I loved the game but felt like the rules and the slavish dedication to a narrative arc kept getting in the way of having fun. Along the way somewhere I discovered Stars Without Number, and from there the wider OSR, and it was as if my eyes were truly opened.
Which brings me to this blog. There are lots of blogs, channels, etc. about being a better GM. However, I think that there's much more to be learned from practical examples and there's also the enjoyment of getting to read a dynamic, emergent story as it unfolds. So, follow me as I run an open table game and live to tell the tale.
I'm not a big social media person, but if you want to let me know what you think I've made a Bluesky account just for you!
